About Maureen Chapasa
Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,” Hebrews 13:5
Growing up in the community of Chinsapo, Malawi has already been a life lesson for the 17-year old Maureen Chapasa. Chinsapo is a diverse community with 75% of the people living below the poverty line. Many people living in this economically disadvantaged community struggle to meet their basic day-to-day needs such as food, shelter, clean water, health and hygiene needs. Even without material possessions, he has learned to be thankful for the things that he does have. Maureen is one of five children in his family. His father works hard to provide meals of n'sima and usipa fish for the family to eat. Maureen is thankful to be able to participate in The Chisomo Idea scholar athlete program which helps to provide for his social, spiritual, intellectual and physical needs. It also gives him the opportunity to do his favorite activity, playing soccer, in addition to providing solid, Christian guidance and mentorship. He has learned that his God will never leave or forsake him- and desires to serve his country and fellow Malawians through service as a soldier in the future.
