Zelia Sendeza

About Zelia Sendeza

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

Zelia Sendeza, a single mother of three children living in Chinsapo, Malawi strives to be the rooted tree that yields fruit for her family. This is a challenge working as a piece worker in a materially poor community with the majority of residents living below the poverty line. Even so, she is able to provide two simple meals a day of n'sima and beans for her family. All of the children attend school. Stuart, 5 years old, loves playing outside and studying English. Rachel, 8 years old, loves dancing, studying English and hopes to one day be a bank manager. Kelvin, 12 years old, loves math and hopes to be an accountant one day. As a family they love to sing- and they have something to sing about. The Chisomo Idea has helped meet their needs on a social, spiritual, intellectual and physical level. Zelia is a participant in the women’s empowerment program led by The Chisomo Idea. This provides social interaction, spiritual guidance and business opportunities so she can continue to provide for her family. Zelia is confident that with God, she and her family will prosper.
